PDLC Glass

Project Goal: Fully incorporate PDLC (polymer-dispersed liquid crystal) glass into the rear door, rear quarter, and roof glass positions of the FF91 passenger vehicle.

Role: Design engineer / electrical engineer / test engineer

Details:

• Designed two sub-components and brought them through full product lifecycle (using CATIA V6) from concept to prototype-tooled parts:

  • Rear quarter PDLC glass (laminated glass with liquid crystal film)

  • Glass encapsulation (EPDM)

• Worked extensively in the supplier vetting process, then worked alongside the glass supplier to support manufacturing and testing.

• Created detailed wiring schematic for all six glass positions.

• Built and installed electrical harnesses for all six glass positions. Also installed the glass itself into prototype vehicles.

• Troubleshot faults and documented findings.
