B-Pillar Applique

Project Goal: Design a B-pillar applique system for the FF91 passenger vehicle that incorporates an LCD display, a camera, and door glass seals.

Role: Project coordinator / design engineer / release engineer / test engineer

Details:

• Designed three sub-components and brought them through full product lifecycle (using CATIA V6), from concept and to fully tooled pre-production parts:

  • Applique (tempered glass)

  • Substrate/component housing (polycarbonate)

  • Edge-of-glass seal system (EPDM)

• Worked with body structures team, studio team, infotainment team, electrical team, and closures team to ensure all design targets were met.

• Defined GD&T scheme for the system.

• Worked with four suppliers to ensure design feasibility; coordinated manufacturing logistics and process flow.

• Outlined part installation and testing procedures.

• Hand-built prototype units and supported testing of electrical systems.

• Worked with manufacturing team to optimize design for manufacturing and to outline part installation procedure.
