Concussion Research
Location: University of California, Irvine
Project Goal: Determine whether ball inflation pressure has a significant impact on head acceleration and traumatic brain injury, with a specific focus on soccer and water polo.
Role: Test engineer / data analyst / researcher / technical writer
Details:
Conducted extensive research regarding concussion onset and prevalence in heavy-contact sports.
Set a budget for the testing portion of the research and ensured the team stayed within budget restraints.
Led physical testing, which involved several weeks of propelling water polo balls and soccer balls at an anthropomorphic testing dummy, which was outfit with angular rate sensors and linear accelerometers.
Compiled hundreds of data sets to discern patterns and reach conclusions - led data analysis efforts.
Presented research findings at conferences.
Supported publication of research paper related to test findings.
